Assessment & Evaluation Policy

The school follows a comprehensive and continuous assessment system that focuses on the overall development of the learner. Assessment is viewed as a tool to support learning, recognise strengths, identify areas for improvement, and help every child progress at their own pace.

The assessment process is designed to be age-appropriate, competency-based, and reflective, in accordance with the recommendations of the National Education Policy and the National Curriculum Framework, while also following CBSE guidelines for the relevant classes.

Assessment includes observation, participation, projects, written work, presentations, and examinations, depending on the age of the child.

GRADE PLAYGROUP TO GRADE II

MONTESSORI METHOD led by MONTESSORI TRAINED TEACHERS

In the early years, learning is observed through the child’s participation, curiosity, independence, and development of basic skills. Assessment is continuous and based on observation, interaction, and developmental readiness, rather than formal testing.

Evaluation focuses on:

  • language development
  • mathematical and logical sense
  • gross and fine motor skills leading to neuro muscular control and refinement
  • social and emotional expressions and behaviour
  • development of independence
  • concentration
  • imagination and creativity
  • communication
  • confidence

Parents get the opportunity to witness their wards sharing their growth journey through presentations by children themselves where they take ownership of their choices and display their skills with mastery in their learning environment.

Child’s Portfolio uses descriptive indicators instead of marks.

Teachers use:

  • individual mapping
    • observation records
    • activity sheets
    • class participation
    • practical work
    • projects
    • interactive communication

GENERAL GUIDELINES

  • Assessment is meant to support learning, not create stress.
  • Regularity, sincerity, and effort are considered important.
  • Retests are allowed only in genuine cases with prior permission.
  • Absence during examination must be supported by valid reason.
  • Use of unfair means will invite disciplinary action as per school rules.

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ASSESSMENT FRAMEWORK

The school ensures that the assessment and recognition practices are followed consistently through teacher orientation, academic planning, periodic review, and coordination meetings.

PROMOTION PRACTICE

The school follows a promotion policy that recognises learning as a continuous process. Promotion to the next class is based on the student’s overall development, regular participation, effort, and achievement of essential competencies, and not only on marks obtained in examinations.

Assessment throughout the year helps teachers understand each child’s strengths, areas of improvement, and readiness for the next level of learning.

FOUNDATIONAL & PREPARATORY STAGE (PG – GRADE V)

For young learners, promotion is based on:

  • developmental readiness
  • participation in class activities
  • progress in language and numeracy
  • social and emotional development
  • independence and work habits
  • regular attendance

Formal marks are not the sole basis for promotion at this stage. Teachers use observation, classwork, projects, and interaction to assess whether the child is ready to move to the next level. In rare cases where additional support is required, the school may recommend guided reinforcement in consultation with parents.

MIDDLE STAGE (GRADES VI – VIII)

Promotion is based on the student’s overall performance during the year, including:

  • periodic assessments
  • classwork and notebook submission
  • subject enrichment activities
  • participation in projects and practical work
  • term examinations
  • co-curricular participation
  • regularity and discipline

Students are expected to demonstrate the required level of understanding in each subject as per CBSE guidelines. However, emphasis is placed on progress, effort, and competency development, along with academic performance.

Additional support may be provided where required to help the student achieve the expected learning outcomes.

SECONDARY STAGE (GRADES IX – X)

Promotion is granted in accordance with CBSE norms.

Evaluation includes:

  • periodic tests
  • multiple assessments
  • portfolio / project work
  • subject enrichment activities
  • term / annual examinations

Students must demonstrate minimum required performance in each subject as per CBSE rules.

Regular attendance, completion of assigned work, and participation in school activities are considered essential for promotion.

SENIOR SECONDARY STAGE (GRADES XI – XII)

Promotion to the next class is based on:

  • performance in unit tests, half-yearly, and annual examinations
  • practical / project work where applicable
  • completion of assignments and coursework
  • attendance as per CBSE norms

Students must fulfil the eligibility requirements prescribed by CBSE for appearing in Board examinations.

Attendance Requirement

Regular attendance is essential for effective learning.

Students must maintain the minimum attendance prescribed by CBSE / school rules in order to:

  • appear for examinations
  • be considered for promotion
  • be eligible for awards and recognition

In genuine cases of illness or unforeseen circumstances, the school may consider the matter on merit.

Support & Remedial Guidance

If a student faces difficulty in achieving the expected level, the school will try to provide:

  • additional guidance
  • remedial support
  • counselling
  • parent consultation

The aim is to help every child progress with confidence rather than to create fear of failure.

General Note

The purpose of promotion is to ensure that the student is ready for the next stage of learning. The school encourages steady effort, sincerity, and positive attitude towards learning, and believes that growth over time is more important than performance in a single examination.
